Connect
Wi-Fi and connectivity in York

How the work proceeds
Enquire
Describe the property, affected rooms, current router or mesh equipment and what fails in practice.
Assess
We review the current setup and establish whether placement, configuration, coverage, broadband performance or equipment is the likely constraint.
Improve and test
Approved changes are made and tested in the areas that matter. Any remaining broadband-provider or building limitation is explained.
Starting prices
- Wi-Fi and connectivity work
- from £95
Equipment and special-order items are quoted separately. Collection, travel or on-site work outside York is agreed individually. Larger or unusually complex properties may require a staged quotation. Structured cabling and broad commercial-network projects are outside the normal service.
Limitations
There is no remote support and no guarantee of a particular internet speed where the broadband service itself is the limiting factor. This is not a managed business-network contract or continuous monitoring service, and unrestricted electrical or building work is not included.
Wall construction, interference, distance and external buildings can affect the available solution. Work VPN or employer-managed devices may need your employer or IT provider rather than Uptime York.
What customers say
We were having ongoing WiFi problems with slow speeds, drop outs, and work VPN failing. Alistair ... diagnosed the issue, optimised everything and now it’s fast and stable in every room.
FAQs
Do you need to visit the property?
Often, yes, since Wi-Fi problems usually depend on the actual layout, equipment and building. An on-site assessment is used where the issue genuinely requires attendance.
Is a mesh system better than a Wi-Fi extender?
It depends on the property and problem. Some cases are solved with better router placement or a single extender; others benefit from a mesh system. This is assessed rather than assumed.
Does the starting price include new equipment?
No. The starting price covers assessment and work; any new equipment, cabling or special-order items are quoted separately before you approve them.
Can you help with work VPN or video-call problems?
Often, where the cause is coverage, placement or configuration. Where the problem lies with an employer-managed device or network, your employer or IT provider may need to be involved.
Can you improve Wi-Fi in a garden office?
Yes, this is a common request. The property and distance from the main router are assessed to find a practical, proportionate solution.
Can you connect smart devices and installed equipment?
Selected smart and installed equipment can be connected as part of the work where it's a sensible fit for the visit.
